Wanda Heatherly Carden, 86, lifelong resident of LaFollette, Tennessee, passed away, Saturday November 22, 2014, in Brentwood, Tennessee at the home of her daughter.
She was born May 1, 1928, to A.J. Heatherly and Zora Roach Heatherly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe M. Carden, Jr., brothers Eugene and Hugh Heatherly, sisters Irene and Aileen Heatherly and nephew Dale Heatherly.
Wanda is survived by daughter Karen Carden Green and husband Richard (Dick) Green formerly of Johnson City, Tennessee. She is also survived by grandsons Joseph C. (Jody) Green, wife Julie, Nashville, Tennessee, David M. Green, wife Ashley, Franklin, Tennessee and great granddaughters Lucy, Katie, Heidi, Claire and Tucker.
She is survived by sister-in-law Janice Morse Williams and husband Mac of Newport News, Virginia as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carden was an elementary school teacher at East Lafollette School for 32 years. She taught children’s Sunday School at First Baptist Church and was a Brownie Scout leader. She loved the children she taught throughout the years and positively influenced many young people, along the way.
She graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and received her Master’s degree from Union College.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Lafollette. She and her husband Joe were involved in starting the first couples' class at First Baptist Church.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves a legacy of honor, integrity, and love for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Receiving of friends will be held at Walters Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 26, 2014. A memorial service will immediately follow with Dr. Bob Brown officiating and Missy Marlow as soloist.
The burial service will be at Woodlawn Cemetery following the memorial service.
Pallbearers will be Joseph C. Green, David M. Green, Wayne Heatherly, Steve Heatherly, Mike Rogers and Jim Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of LaFollette, 255 West Central Avenue, LaFollette, Tennessee 37766
