Ruth E. Goins Scalf , 67, of Galveston, IN formerly of LaFollette, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning, January 20, 2018, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo. She was born October 25, 1950, in LaFollette, Tennessee to Onie and Elsie (Paul) Goins. She was a graduate of LaFollette High School and a former member of Glade Springs Baptist Church, having grown up in the Glade Springs Community. She married Charles “Chuck” Scalf December 1, 1970, in Greentown and he survives. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, J. Will, Gene, Jennie, Lewis, Dianna, and grandson, Dusty.
Ruth worked as a cashier for St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo for many years. She was a member of the Upper Deer Creek Church in Galveston and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo, working crossword puzzles, and game night with her family. Her grandchildren and her little dog Pumpkin were the joys’ of her life.
Surviving family include her husband, Chuck Scalf, Galveston with whom they celebrated over 48 years of marriage; her children, Mary Ann (Richard) Packard, Lafayette, IN: Stacy R. (Darren) Surber, Kirkland, IN; and Shari Scalf, Kokomo, IN. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Trevor, Kyle, Amanda and husband Christian, Brenna, Jared and Brittany. Her great grandchildren, McKenzie, Addyson, Jadlyn, Haidyn, Mazzy and Kaelyn. She is also survived by her sister, Lucille McNeely of LaFollette, TN. Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24th at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Joe Coffin officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be given to a charity of Donor’s choice.
