Calvin Morton went home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 9, 2017 at the age of 75 years, 3 months, 8 days after a year + long battle with MDS. Myelodysplastic Syndrome (a type of cancer).

Calvin was born on July 1, 1942 at Knoxville, TN to Albert and Samuella Morton. He was a current member and former trustee of Demory Baptist Church. He had been a County Commissioner. He owned and operated Morton’s Marina for several years, which is now Sugar Hollow Dock, was a farmer, worked at Austin Powder, worked at the shirt factory, was the owner and operator of school buses, was a Sgt. and Detective and the 1st K-9 officer in Campbell County under Sheriff John Dossett, a Recovery Agent, and a Bailiff for the Campbell County Sheriff Department for several years. He was a Jack-of-all-trades. He worked on cars, was an excellent carpenter, and loved to golf.  He was a Past Master of Stooksbury Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his Father-Albert Calvin Morton, and his Mother-Samuella McTeer Morton, Grandparents-Edgbert and Emily Jane Boshears Morton, Samuel Houston and Ada Trotter McTeer, and also several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends.

Calvin is survived by his Children: Son and caretaker-Calvin Odell Morton and wife Jerri. Daughters-Marsha Morton and Suzanne (Sunshine). Former wife and mother of his children-Ann Morton.

Beloved brother and caretaker-Edward Morton and wife Vijaya.

Grandchildren-Albert Calvin and wife Susanne, Shaina and John O’Rourke, and Stacy Morton and Michael Riley.

Special Uncle-Robert Morton and wife Lani, and very special Aunt-Novella Wynn. AKA “Mom” and Uncle Doug Eldridge.  He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Special thanks to the Campbell County Cancer Association, Dr. Hanna and his staff, and to Amedisys Hospice for making his final days a little easier.

Services for Calvin will as follows:

Visitation at Walters Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will be at Demory Baptist Church on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00 A.M.

Mr. Morton’s remains will lie in state 1 hour before services at the church.

Burial will be in Pond Cemetery.
