Mildred Smiddy

Mrs. Mildred Louise (Rookard) Smiddy, affectionately known as “Granny Bid”, age 87 went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, May 17, 2024 surrounded by her dearest loved ones.   Mildred was a member of Lick Creek Pentecostal Church and enjoyed sharing about her Lord and Savior for many years singing with the Gospel Crusaders for over 30 years.  She was employed with LaFollette Medical Center as a Nurse for 19 years, where she found great joy in caring for others.  Mildred also enjoyed gardening and sharing all of her vegetables with everyone, quilting with her dear friends at the Quilt Patch, and spending time with her family.  She is preceded in death by parents, Milford and Aileen Rookard, Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Dewey and Amanda Belle Smiddy, sister, Meryl Burress, and baby sister, Arlene Rookard.

She is survived by loving husband, Charles Smiddy, daughter, Merlene Hill and husband, Terry; granddaughters, Maren Vaden (Caleb), and Megan Smith (Jason); 4 great-grandchildren whom she adored, Madison Hill, Jaren Smith, Bransen and Ledger Vaden; sisters, Gayle McCullah (Earl), Paralee Riggs (Ronnie), Ava Gaynell Blankenship, Mitzi Reynolds, Linda Baird, and Brenda Oglesby (Gordon); brothers, Jerry Rookard (Vickie), and Darryl Rookard (Tammy); brother-in-law, Archie Burress; special nieces, Kellie Griffith and Raelyn Suttles, and many dear friends and family members.   

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, 2:00 PM at Powell Valley Cemetery (206 Henson Road, LaFollette, TN 37766) with Rev. Hansford Bolton and Rev. Harry James officiating.   The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Mildred’s memory to: Lick Creek Pentecostal Church, 5044 S. Highway. 25W, LaFollette, TN 37766.  Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Mildred Louise (Rookard) Smiddy.
