Margie Monday Ford

Mrs. Margie Monday Ford of Speedwell, TN passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024. Margie will be forever missed, but she lived a full and happy life devoted to the things that mattered most to her - her family and her faith. Her family finds peace in knowing that she rests now with Jesus.

Daughter of Harrison and Pearl Leach and sister to June, Ralph, Jewell, Evelyn, Bill, and JB, Margie grew up in Speedwell, TN and often reflected fondly on her childhood, recounting picnics after church on Sundays, living on the farm and her mother’s cooking.

Margie married Doyle Monday and was blessed with four children, Beverly, Doyle, Peggy, and Kelvin. Margie was an extremely hardworking woman, working for several years at the LaFollette Shirt Factory. A talented seamstress, she opened and ran her own business, Margie’s Fabric Shop and Alterations, for nine years, then she managed the LaFollette Self Storage Units until retirement.

Even after her children had grown and started families of their own, Margie remained the pillar of her family. Her home and cooking, especially her chocolate cream pies, were central to countless family gatherings, including holiday meals, family reunions, and the bridal showers she hosted for each of her granddaughters and grandsons’ brides-to-be.

Margie was also a vital member of the Fincastle Church. A devout Christian, Margie was as dedicated to her church as she was to her family. She taught Sunday school for years, was in charge of the fried apple pies for the Fall Festival and sought out any opportunity she could to support the church and to serve the Lord.

Margie is survived by her children Beverly Childs (Mike), Doyle Monday (Susie), and Peggy Byrd (Kyle); her daughter-in-law Susan Monday, her grandchildren Candace Bowser (Tyler), Nathan Monday (Lauren), Windy Childs, Rebecca Wagner (Brian), Melissa Linning (Leighton), Amy Ficarro (Chase), Michael Monday (Lauren), Kaitlin Chiarello (Matt), Jacob Monday (Katie), and Kendall Monday; and seventeen great-grandchildren as well as her sisters-in-law, Linda Leach and Judy Leach Clem, and caregiver,  Jackie Evans.

Margie is preceded in death by her husbands, Doyle Monday, and Fred Ford; her son, Kelvin Monday; her grandchildren, January Byrd, Drew Byrd, Blake Byrd, and Emily Monday; her parents, Harrison and Pearl Leach; her siblings, June James, Ralph Leach, Jewell Winstead, Evelyn Bailey, Bill Leach, and JB Leach;

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 12:00 – 1:30 PM, with the funeral service immediately following at 1:30 PM at the Fincastle Church. Reverend Steve Evans will be officiating.

Memorials may be sent to the Fincastle Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, 629 Old Middlesboro Highway, LaFollette, TN  37766.   Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Margie Monday Ford.
