James Edwin Gamble (Jim) of LaFollette, age 88, passed away on Saturday, August 8, at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville.  Mr. Gamble was born on October 10, 1926, in Jacksboro, Tennessee.  He has owned and operated Gamble Motor Company in Campbell County since 1943.

Mr. Gamble was preceded in death by parents Elvira Elizabeth Trowbridge Gamble and Avery Gamble, daughter Katherine Elizabeth Gamble and son Robert Avery Gamble.

A member of First Baptist Church of Jacksboro for 68 years, Mr. Gamble is survived by his wife of 68 years Betty Adkins Gamble; son James Edwin Gamble , Jr. (Betty) and daughter Jane Gamble Chedester, both of Knoxville; sisters Bettie Stiner and Francis Burden (Harry), both of Jacksboro; three granddaughters, Katherine Gamble Russell (Clarke), Laura Hadley Jane Gamble and Elizabeth Jane Chedester; two great grandchildren, Margaret Jane and Ewing Russell; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gamble was appointed by Governor Winfield Dunn to the Campbell County Election Commission, on which he served for 33 years, becoming the longest serving Chair in Tennessee’s history. He served on the Jacksboro Utilities Board and was elected to the Campbell County School Board, serving as Chairman for two terms.

The family wishes to thank caregivers Pernie Byrd, Ashley Cheek, Tammy Teague and Bobbie Nix for their kindness and dedication.

Pastor Ronnie Arnold, of Cedar Hill Baptist Church, and Pastor Bill Arbo, of First Baptist Church of Jacksboro, will officiate the graveside service at Jacksboro Cemetery on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 am. Employees of Gamble Motor Co. will serve as pall bearers: Mothanan Awad, Brian Bridges, Charlie Campbell, Frank Moore, Larry Richardson and Darrin Williamson.  Honorary pallbearers:  Ed Wheeler, Edwin Trowbridge, and Dr. James Farris.  Friends may call at their convenience Tuesday afternoon, August 11, at Walters Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.waltersfuneralhome.net.  Walters Funeral Home of  LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Jim Gamble.
