Dr. Marshall Everett Rasnake, 90, of LaFollette, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN.
Marshall was born July 7, 1924 in LaFollette, TN to Mark and Kate Rasnake.
In 1940, Marshall graduated from Jacksboro High School. He served three years in the U.S. Navy. He went on to further his education receiving his BS in Education from The University of Tennessee, MS in Education from Columbia University in New York, and Doctorate in Education from Memphis State University.
Marshall taught at Campbell County High School, Jellico High School, and Beaver Creek High School in Dayton, OH. He was the Principal of Coal Field School and LaFollette High School. He was also a member of the Campbell County Gideons and was the former Chairman of the Campbell County Democratic Party. He served as the Campbell County Superintendent of Schools and School Board Member. He recently retired from Union University in Barbourville, KY after 37 years of service.
Marshall was a distinguished member of the American Legion, the Campbell County Masonic Lodge #778 F.&A.M. (68 year member), and the Order of the Eastern Star, Jellico Chapter 215. He was an active member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church where he served as former Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, and Trustee.
Marshall is survived by his devoted sister, Jane Rasnake, his adopted family, Ronnie and Kathy Arnold, Ben, Amanda, Clark, and Emma Kate Lawson, Katie Arnold, Joe and Allison Morris, and Troy and Jamie Arnold. He is also survived by his special cousins Louise Madron, L.C. and Carol Madron and family, Cherry Lee Artis and family, Jean Bennett and family, Joyce McMullin and family, and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 18 at Cedar Hill Baptist Church from 4:00-6:45 p.m. The Masonic Rite Ceremony will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. conducted by Campbell County Masonic Lodge #778 F.&A.M. Funeral services will directly follow led by Rev. Ronnie Arnold. The graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 19 at Bakers Forge Cemetery in LaFollette at 11:00 a.m. with Military Honors conducted by Campbell County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cedar Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 639 Demory Road, LaFollette, TN 37766.
