Bettie Lou Gamble Stiner , or known to most as “Did”, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the age of 93.
Ms. Stiner, a lifelong resident of Jacksboro, attended Jacksboro High School and the University of Tennessee, where she earned her English degree. She then went on to Union College where she obtained her master’s degree in Education Leadership.
She began her teaching career in the Block -Turley One Room School at the age of 18. She went on to work for 33 years in the Campbell County School System teaching English, Civics, Math, and serving as guidance counselor at Jacksboro High School.
She was the longest tenured member of the Jacksboro United Methodist Church and on Sunday mornings you could find her seated at the piano. She proudly served as pianist, organist, choir director, church member, and Sunday school teacher.
Ms. Stiner enjoyed the mountains, her piano given to her by her late father, and spending time with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by parents, Elvira Elizabeth Trowbridge Gamble and Avery Gamble, daughter, Virginia Avery Stiner Rodgers, son-in-law Thomas Frank Rodgers, beloved brother, James Edwin “Jim” Gamble, and brother-in-law, Harry Donald Burden.
She is survived by daughter, Cindy Stiner Boshears of Clinton, sister, Frances Gamble Burden, sister-in-law, Betty Adkins Gamble, grandchildren, Mark Rodgers and wife Katie, Lauren Bowen, and Allison Boshears, three great-grandchildren, Jennie, Harper and Will Bowen; and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Keith Hampson of Jacksboro United Methodist Church will officiate the graveside service at Jacksboro Cemetery on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 11 a.m. Pallbearers will include James “Jimmy” Gamble, Don Burden, Avery Burden, Bill Roehl, Garvon Boshears, and Matthew Dexter. Friends may call at their convenience Tuesday evening from 6-8 P.M., July 20th at Jacksboro United Methodist Church. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Jacksboro United Methodist Church, 108 Liberty Street, Jacksboro, TN 37757.
